Relaxation
– my relaxation massage is a very firm
eclectic Swedish-style massage with elements of cranio-sacral,
lomi-lomi, Shiatsu, Reflexology, energy, sports massage, and other
modalities included. However, it is my goal to meet your needs, so I do
adjust the pressure to what you indicate to be comfortable.
Deep tissue -
there are many types of deep tissue work done. The deep tissue massage
I do is a specific therapeutic modality called Myotherapy or Trigger
Point Therapy.

|
This is similar to acupressure, but
was developed originally by a Dr. Janet Travell as trigger point
injections and working under her Bonnie Prudden who discovered that
pressure on these trigger points would release the muscles just as the
injections did.A trigger point is a highly irritable spot in the
muscle. They occur when an insult to the muscle happens such as
accidents, sports/hobby injuries, disease, occupations (including
computer use & driving), and birth injuries. Trigger point
therapy is a series of pressure points done, usually on the back, but
sometimes on the chest or extremities, to relieve extreme muscle
tightness, pain, or spasm. It is a deep, intense therapy, and not
particularly comfortable, but it does relieve severe discomfort. It is
followed by stretches and homework stretches. This is not to take the
place of seeing a doctor if you have had an injury. If you have had a
recent injury, please see your doctor before having any massage, but
especially deep work done. However, if you are having everyday stresses
and feel you need deep work done, are in good general health and like
or need to have muscle released, this is powerful work. A trigger point
series on the back generally takes about half an hour. I then spend the
rest of the session giving a more relaxing massage. If you want a
full-body massage with this deep tissue, i recommend an hour and a
half.
Lymph drainage – This
therapy was developed by doctors in France as a post-surgical treatment
to help patients recover more quickly by moving fluids away from the
surgical site. I incorporate this as part of relaxation massage when
requested or at times if I feel the client will benefit and they agree.
Lymph fluid is part of the immune system and lies just under the skin.
This technique is therefore very light and relaxing. A lymph facial as
part of the massage can help with sinus/allergy issues, headaches, and
sometimes ear problems. This therapy helps improve circulation; it
drains toxins in your system; it stimulates the immune system; it has
been found helpful in chronic conditions such as sinusitis, bronchitis,
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; it stimulates the parasympathetic system
which can be helpful in stress, depression, and sleeping disorders;
because it helps move fluids and reduces edema it can relieve some
chronic pain. This can be done for many people who cannot otherwise
have massage. There are very few contraindications. You should tell me
of any medical conditions you have, and you should not receive lymph
therapy if you think you are coming down with a fever, have a fever, or
are within 24 to 36 hours recovering from a fever. Also you should
drink lots of water before and especially after lymph therapy to help
flush out the toxins released.
Reflexology
- Reflexology is based on the idea that specific points on the feet and
hands correspond with organs and tissues throughout the body. With
fingers and thumbs, I apply pressure to these points. Many people find
this relaxing, some find it relieves pain.
CranioSacral
Therapy - Cranio-sacral Therapy (CST)
–
this therapy pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E.
Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to
1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical
researcher and Professor of Biomechanics. CST is a gentle, hands-on
method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological
body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the
membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain
and spinal cord. By complementing the body's natural healing
processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health
measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and
is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated
with pain and dysfunction.

Lymph Therapy and Cranio-sacral Therapy see: www.upledger.com)
Chair
massage - In a hurry? Enjoy a relaxing upper body massage
while comfortably seated and fully clothed.
Sports
massage - Over
done it in working out? The main purpose of sports massage therapy is
to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the
body’s soft tissues during physical activity. massage can
help break down these tensions quickly and effectively. Done as part of
a “deep tissue” massage, sports massage can help
work through any issues related to sports-related aches and tension.
Ear
Candling - the ear cone is like a small cone funnel.
While lying on your back, the small end of the cone is placed in one
ear and the large end of the cone is ignited like a candle. As the end
of the cone is burning it creates a vacuum that pulls out excess
earwax, naturally removing the wax from the ear canal and depositing it
into the inside of the cone. Alleviate the pain and pressure associated
with earaches, allergies, and hearing difficulties with this natural
and holistic treatment.
